Applying customisation to Headers/Footers/Cover Page and formatting of styles

The Accounts template allows custom styles to be set and applied by the firm across all machines using the template.

Customising includes modifications to the following:

  • Alignment of figure columns
  • Font choice & format
  • Cover page
  • Headers & footers
  • Office addresses for the firm

The custom settings are applied to the machine and not the template itself. These customizations are achieved using various Resource files, typically set per machine (or per Citrix server in a Citrix environment).

Process

1. Use a Caseware client file as a model to make the adjustments in the Accounts Wizard under Presentation Style.

2. Click on the Click to amend button to apply the custom styles.

3. This creates/updates the following files:

  • [Caseware program path]\Resources\Knowledge Library\Custom\Corp-CoverCustom.cvw
  • [Caseware program path]\Resources\Knowledge Library\Custom\Corp-headerCustom.cvw
  • [Caseware program path]\Resources\Knowledge Library\Custom\Corp-footersCustom.cvw

4. On the Accounts Wizard under Presentation Style page, click on Save as computer default (bottom right of Advanced section).

5. This will write to the necessary database files:

  • [Caseware program path]\Resources\Databases\CDB1.DBF
  • [Caseware program path]\Resources\Databases\CDB1.FPT
  • [Caseware program path]\Resources\Databases\CDB1.CDX

To instruct CaseView to copy these settings into the client file for all new client files and existing client files if Update is selected.

6. To apply the changes to all machines, distribute the 3 CDB1.*** files mentioned above to all machines, along with the relevant customisation files (Example: Corp-CoverCustom.cvw).

7. Use the CW Computer Settings to set up client file restrictions that disable functions allowing changes to customizations.

This opens a CaseView document called COMPSET.cvw:

The password to set up Client file restrictions is admin. The option to change the password is found here if needed.

Note: You set up the general computer restrictions in the top half of the screen. If required to override the customisations for a particular client file, this can be achieved by amending the settings in the bottom half of the screen.

Note: The COMPSET CaseView file is used to also write to those same database files, so there is no need to distribute this CaseView file to all machines.

Locking custom Casview files

You can also put a lock on the customised CaseView files (e.g. Corp-CoverCustom.cvw).

To do this, when you have the files open (when you are making the customisations), in the Command Bar there is a golden key. This allows you to put a password of your choice on files, which locks the Enabling Editing mode.

Formatting Text

Formatting of any of the text appearing in the Accounts is achieved via Style Sheets using the Style Bar as discussed.

These can be amended per client file OR a Firm Style can be set up and applied

On the AA icon on the Style Bar, right-click take Amend font styles, then: Save current setting as Firm Style.

This creates the following file:  [Caseware program path]\Resources\StyleSheets\Firm.sty.

Thereafter, Apply existing Firm Style to this document, this ensures that any given client file uses/takes a copy of the formatting settings.

Then, to have this Firm Style available to all users, again as with the Custom files above, you would need to copy the relevant file to all machines:   [Caseware program path]\Resources\StyleSheets\Firm.sty.

Note: If a Firm Style has not been set up then this file will not exist. Its existence is noted in those same CDB1 database files, so copy the database files to all machines after you’ve set up the Firm Style, if you choose to use it.

To return any client file to Caseware’s default styles, select Amend font styles and Reapply Default style sets to this document.
If there is strange behaviour in the formatting of your client file, we would recommend you do this for any given file, before reapplying your own Firm Style.

If the Capitalisation and Date Format type settings have been adjusted in a client file (in the Accounts Wizard– Descriptions page – Capitalisation of Statement and Report titles in the Accounts), and then a Firm Style is set up (as above), then these settings are also saved in the same Firm Style (i.e. in the Firm.sty file).

Additional Information

You can also set up the Firm Addresses - the  Names and Addresses displayed on the face of the Accounts document (not to be confused with Firm Styles).

Set these up either directly via the CW Computer Settings link, or access via the Firm set up button in the General Information wizard.

Note: As this data is entered via the CW Computer Settings (i.e. COMPSET.cvw), the data is actually saved in those same 3 database files mentioned above.
