iXBRL Diagnostic Errors - Not dimensionally valid

When manually tagging items, some tags can trigger errors reading similar to Tagged item "problem tag" is not dimensionally valid, like the below screenshot.

This is because certain tags have requirements that their associated contexts contain points of information called dimensions.

These dimensions typically help to make tags that are used multiple times pick up as unique.

For example, it is required for the Name of Controlling Party tag to have extra-dimensional information, as potentially there are multiple controlling parties that must be named.

This means the error exists because of the following reasons:

  • The context on this tag contains dimensional information irrelevant to the tag, e.g. tagging Name of Subsidiary with a context identifying it as Director 1.
  • The context on this tag does not contain mandatory dimensional information for that tag, e.g. tagging Name of Controlling Party with a context that doesn't contain the necessary typed dimension shown below.

To resolve this error, you will need to select a context that contains appropriate dimensional information for the tag triggering the error message. Potentially, you may need to create content manually.

The following articles describe how to create contexts in Caseware.

Creating contexts with typed dimensions

Note: The dimensions a tag might require are defined in the FRC taxonomy. It is the responsibility of the user to create and/or apply suitable contexts to their tags.

Other than some broad advice given in the above articles, Support is not able to advise which dimensions are necessary for different tags.
