iXBRL Diagnostic Errors - Length Requirement

You may find a diagnostic error when generating your accounts which reads Tagged item's value does not meet the length requirement specified for this taxonomy element.

Typically, these are because a Fixed type tag has been applied to an alphanumeric string.  A Fixed tag is a tag expected to have no content and has its effect by being tagged with appropriate dimensional information.

A typical time this error may be triggered is related to an incorrectly tagged director's signature.

As you can see from the screenshots below, the tag Director Signing Directors' Report is applied not to the director's name, but to a blank cell adjacent to it.

This is because the Director's name is to be tagged as Name of entity officer, and the tag Director Signing Directors' Report is a Fixed type tag.

This director is identified as the one signing, as the two tags share a context with relevant dimensional information, identifying which director the tag relates to.

It is not presented in the tagging menu whether or not a tag has the Fixed type, except for where it triggers the errors noted.

If you encounter an error of this nature, you would need to identify which tag is causing the error by following the correct option on the bottom left of the diagnostics screen, and ensuring the tag is applied to a blank cell.

See this article to create a blank alphanumeric cell suitable for this purpose.
