Object inserted into account not updating

If you have inserted an Object within your accounts document, you may find that when amending this Object your changes don’t appear.

1. This can be caused by not selecting the Link checkbox when inserting the Object.

2. This checkbox can be found here:

Object inserted from an excisting excel document not updating

If you have inserted an Excel file as an Object you may find that, despite linking the document, the Object does not change after updating the file.

1. This will be caused by entering information outside of the range of cells that were used when the object was first inserted.

Note: If you know before inserting the table that you will be adding extra rows and/or columns later, it is advisable to enter any character in the furthest row and/or column that you will use, as this will pre-empt this issue.

2. For example, if you were to insert the following Excel document, the range of cells would be the furthest column to the furthest row as shown below:

3. If you were then to update this document by entering information outside of this range, it will not pull through to your accounts document; only information entered within the original range will pull through.

In the following example, column D will not pull through:

4. To pull the updated information through, you will need to delete this inserted Object from your accounts document and insert the Object again within a new Excel file.

5. This can be done by creating a new Excel file, followed by copying and pasting the previous file into a new one.

6. Alternatively, you can create a new file by selecting Create New and Microsoft Excel Worksheet.

7. You can then copy and paste the relevant information into this newly generated Excel file.

Note: If you wish to use the same Excel file in multiple locations throughout your accounts document, and therefore wish for each instance to be updated when amending the file, you will need to use the Create from File option.
