Soft and Hard returns within CaseView
Types of return
Soft return (return symbol - ↵) - used for a continuation of text.
Hard return (pilcrow - ¶) - defines where a paragraph starts and ends.
Creation
When in Enable editing, identify the type of marker being used.
To create a soft return, use the Shift + Enter keys simultaneously. For a hard return, use the Enter key.
The distinction between hard and soft returns is most important when editing text or creating custom reports such as Audit Reports.
Example: If bullet points were needed for a section, applying the bullet point on the first paragraph and then entering a soft return would simply create a new line within the same bullet point.
However, if a hard return is entered after the text in the paragraph, a new bullet point will be entered for that section in the same way you would expect in a word processor.
Any blocks of text separated with soft returns will inherit the style of the block of text before it.
Using hard returns will allow for a greater degree of flexibility and customisation of styles between blocks of text and sections.
