Temp Directory

The temp directory is a folder which contains files that are only needed temporarily. These files don't always get deleted after their job is done, resulting in wasted drive space and slowing Caseware down.

Manual Process

To open the temp folder, click Start (in Windows) or go to the Windows Search and type %temp%. Select the folder that appears.

Once there, click Ctrl + A and delete all documents. This will not delete all documents and you should skip any when prompted.

Automatic Process

The temp directory on Windows 10 can be cleared automatically. Open settings and navigate to System>Storage. You should see the option for Storage sense. Enable this to clear the temp directory, as well as files stored within the Recycle Bin for more than 30 days. Please note this option is appropriate if your machine is low on disk space. If Caseware is running slow, follow the manual process.
