How to Perform a Clean Up

The Clean Up feature allows for the permanent deletion of unwanted items such as documents, annotations and issues.

Note: We highly recommend taking a backup of your Caseware file prior to running a Clean Up. For guidance on saving a backup click here.

The functions of the Clean Up:

  • Clears any issues that are not set to Retain on Cleanup
  • Deletes any documents that are not set to Retain on Cleanup (including .BAK or .TMP files)
  • Removes annotations to documents that have been deleted due to the Clean Up process
  • Optionally clears History and/or Milestones

1. Select Engagement and CleanUp.

2. The Clean Up Wizard will open, if you wish to retain anything you will need to tick the box in this window.

3. Click Next to complete the process.

4. Select Finish to complete the process.

5. The Clean Up feature was initially designed to run just before or after a year end close to ensure that the file only contained desired documents.

Note: Although a Clean Up can be used to remove history/milestones, it may not always be the best option as deleting these will remove the client file’s audit trail. You will need to decide whether this is suitable for that file.
